Techniguard B-Series
Bendable Vacuum Jacketed Pipe (VJP)
High-Efficiency, Configurable Vacuum Insulated Pipe
Techniguard R-Series bendable vacuum jacketed pipe is an effective,
cost-efficient flexible vacuum insulated pipe designed to transfer liquid cryogens from a bulk storage tank to
a point of use. With the additional new configurations and our revised bayonets it's even
easier to connect different sized bendable and
rigid pipe in the same system. And the new B-Series heat leak performance is now even
better where it counts, when you bend it!
Techniguard B-Series Features
Simplifies system layout requirements —
Flexibility reduces the necessity for precise system layout
measurements.
Easy Installation — Bendable piping requires
less precise layout measurements than rigid pipe. No welding or
refitting in the field required. It's even easier to install than foam
covered pipe!
Reroute/reuse system — Flexibility allows
much or all of a system to be reused if use-point locations are changed,
i.e. plant layout is changed. You can also add to the existing
system without major rework expenses.
Lower shipping costs — Flexibility allows
cryogenic pipe systems to be coiled and crated for shipment via motor or
air freight. The need for expensive dedicated trucks is
eliminated. Overseas shipment is no longer cost
prohibitive.
Rugged construction for virtually maintenance-free
operation
Liquid nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon, and hydrogen ready.
Liquid oxygen and helium options are available.
All this with only a modest loss in performance versus our
R-Series VJP.
Flexibility and cost savings are the factors in considering the
use of a Techniguard B-Series vacuum jacketed pipe over
traditional rigid pipe in a vacuum insulated system. When a low cost
rapid installation is of primary concern, and insulative qualities are required
to prevent excessive loss of product, bendable pipe is a good alternative to
rigid vacuum insulated pipe. Techniguard B-Series bendable pipe's advantages over more traditional rigid Vacuum Jacketed Pipe (VJP)
can translate into cost savings to the customer along with improved
system options for growing plant operations.
You can learn more about the trade-offs between rigid and bendable pipe in the article from the Summer 2006 issue of Cold Facts on
Flexible Transfer Hoses for Cryogenic
Fluids.
A wide variety of options are available to meet your specific needs including:
- Lengths up to 60 feet (19 meter)
- Choice of external covering to best meet your application needs
- Choice of end connections
- ASME B31.3 and liquid oxygen certification available.
Suggested Applications
Techniguard B-Series Bendable Vacuum Insulated Pipe can be used in any
situation where liquid nitrogen needs to be transferred from a bulk storage
tank to any number of user points. The B-Series Techniguard is well suited for
any of the following installations:
Start-up operations
Operations where substantial plant growth is
anticipated
Laboratories where future rerouting of cryogenic pipe
system may be necessary
New product launch facilities that need to be brought
on line quickly
Economical replacement of old, inefficient (leaky)
LN2 piping
By its flexible nature, bendable pipe may be used in a variety of
applications not possible for rigid pipe, such as the filling of MRI magnets
from portable dewars and the connection of liquid nitrogen food freezers and
deflashers to liquid bulk storage tanks.

Pipe Construction
The pipe is constructed of convoluted inner and outer tubing. The
inner tube serves as the cryogen carrier. The outer tube
contains the vacuum jacket. The inner tube is mechanically insulated with
multi-layered super-insulation (MLS). The MLS consists of alternating
layers of reflective foil and non-conductive spacer material. The
insulated inner tube is loaded into the outer jacket. The space between
the two lines is evacuated to the highest industry standards. The vacuum
annulus contains appropriate getter materials to adsorb out-gassed molecules,
thereby improving the vacuum.
Pipe Joints
Sections of Techniguard Bendable Pipe are connected via vacuum
insulated bayonet connectors. These connections provide a frost-free
joint between cryogenic lines. Bayonet connections simplify installation
by eliminating the need for threaded or welded field joints and the associated
foam insulation or wrapping.
